When my son was that age he would eat a lot of finger food, although i would feed him too in order to avoid messes. As he got older, he grew used to me feeding him all the time and started hating food getting on his face and making a mess but he uses a napkin to clean himself and cleans up after himself like its no big deal, but he still prefers i feed him because he knows its cleaner.. thats what happened over time. It doesnt in any way mean your baby has SPD, some kids just hate getting dirty. I know plenty like that. Dont force it.. let him experiment with dry finger foods, like puffs and cheerios and gradually work torwards cut up noodles (not with sauce, maybe just thin cut up noodes with a little butter) and just a little bit at a time. He will gradually get used to it step by step. The less messier the food the more he can get used to being comfortable feeding himself.. just have a napkin handy!
@mommysbabies yes. I bought the ones that dissolve in his mouth and he just doesnt like it. He's a bit picky lol. I keep trying occasionally just to see if eventually he'll start eating them.
Have you tried cereal or puffs yogurt bites or rice husks that was how we got him to first start eating on his own they aren't supper messy so it may help
My son always has to have his hands cleaned after eating his father was the same way my husband would refuse to go play outside because he didn't want to get dirty he eventually grew out of it when he found sports we are working to try the spoon and fork with our son but he isn't liking it to much some kids just don't like being dirty my son freaks out when his hands get sticky dr doesn't seem concerned because I did ask about autism since he head bangs too but she didn't think he needed to be tested just yet she said it was normal behavior
