I could never actually 'sleep' if the baby was in my bed, I was always hyper aware of where she was and any tiny movement from her or my husband make my eyes shoot open... about a week after bringing my baby home from the NICU, she refused to sleep anywhere but our bed, and I was loosing my mind from sleep deprivation... we were given a co-sleeper, that attaches to the edge of our bed... and that worked PERFECT for me, baby was right next to me... but was in her own safe place... i also put a Snuza (SIDS monitor) on the baby at night/naps, I set it to make a clicking noise when they breathe, so I never had to 'fully' wake up when I felt I needed to check on her... both of those things helped me sleep SO much better after birth! Even now when my toddler crawls into bed with us, I just don't sleep well!
