Can someone explain this to me....I delivered three babies n I still don't get the logic of why they want you to take your freshly newborn baby to see their pediatrician like a week after birth. But they tell you to take it easy n rest for six wks.I have always waited til I healed enough to go anywhere especially with my new born baby bc the office can have germs in the air at the waiting room n office. But what's the logic for them rushing you to go there so soon?

Probably mostly to check their weight.

They actually made me take him the day after I left the hospital.
Had him the 7th, left the 9th, took him the 10th

They wouldn't discharge me without setting up to see a pediatrician. Had him the 12/26 saw the ped 12/28 I'm lucky I didn't tear at all so it wasn't that painful to me

We were im the hospital for 4 days and we saw the doctor 3 days later. They make you come early in the morning before other patients get there.

I learned along the way to take my time to heal first. But this one I think I'm going to go when they want me bc of baby's condition now. I just may need to have some one with me this time

They are checking weight primarily... its critical to make sure the baby is growning... my daughter was a preemie, so I went in almost weekly for several months for weight checks... I was breastfeeding (pumping and bottle feeding, she was not strong enough to latch at first) and to help her keep gaining we had to add a tiny bit of formula to my breast milk each feeding to increase the calories. So I'm sure it's just to check weight and make sure you don't need to change anything feeding wise to keep baby growing healthy!
