What are peoples thoughts on having the test to see if the baby has down syndrome or other issues!?…

Ive had the tests with all 3 of mine. The outcome would never change anything for me but if anything did come back on the tests then at least i would be prepared

Theres no risk to the baby at all. They will measure the fluid on the back of the babies neck during the scan and take a routine blood test from you and from that they can calculate the probability. None of the tests are evasive x

I just had the blood tests which can tell if your high or low risk but I wouldn't have the amniocentesis (the needle into the tummy which gets some of the amniotic fluid to test for certain if baby has the conditions) because there is a risk of miscarriage and I'd keep the baby regardless xx

@genieh @kayteamay thank you ladies! I don't think I want it because either way I will keep the baby so I will face any challenges that may bring when I deliver a healthy happy baby :) xx

I only wanted the blood test for high/low risk because if I was high risk I could read up and educate myself incase baby did have anything! Xx

@sjbeanie, you only get the amnio if the blood test comes back high risk so you can decide then if it's worth getting a second test the first is just blood test and they take a fluid measurement during your first scan my opinion is have it done as the risks associated with downs can sometimes be heart problems so they can look out for all risks for baby x

@tazrobs89 I may get the blood test isn't there one where they can burst the fluid around the baby causing miscarriage!? How exciting are you finding out the sex!? :) I can't wait for mine now luckily my holiday is 12th - 22nd so at least the time will go fast! It would drag if I was at work :) xxx

@sjbeanie, no Hun it's just a blood test and a scan if they come bk showing something then they may have to put a needle in your belly button but the first test is just a scan and bloods and yeh we going to find out how u feeling x. X x

@tazrobs89 ah right I am Happy with that then just don't want the needle haha! I am feeling great just always tired and with it being my first I have days where it all feels too much but overall I am so excited just want my scan then I can start the room and buying stuff 🙊 how're you!? Bet it will be madness with another one but it will be amazing all the same 😊 xx

@sjbeanie, they should of explain it more too u Hun I've had 2 scan but first one was too early and the 2nd we see the heartbeat had my first midwife appointment Friday and I can't for my scan to see baby again and yeah the boys are good tho we can't wait to add one more and I feel so rough I have good and bad days but my other half is great and helps out a lot when his home tiredness yes lol hopefully it will all pass soon x. X x

I had the blood test done but I refused to do anything further than that. It's completely your choice. I had it done as it was only a blood test and it's only when you get your results back you decide if you want to go further or not. I wanted to be prepared if baby had an issue. It wasn't going to change anything for me at all either I just wanted to be prepared for it if it happened. If I'm lucky enough to have another baby I'd do the test again without a thought x

I've had the bloods done and luckily we were low risk, a girl I used to go to school with just had a baby with patau syndrome and he's just (very sadly) died after a few weeks of birth, I was chatting with my friend about it and I'm not sure I'd like to put my family and the baby through it, tough call 🙁
