HELP!!!! my little boy is 8 months soon and still unable to self soothe! I put him in his cot last night and he just screamed and screamed until he made himself sick and I picked him up and he stopped straight away and started to fall to sleep but as soon as I put him down he started again. I tried again this morning for his nap and he was screaming again and was sweating so much he looked like he had been in the bath but again as soon as I picked him up he's ok. But I can't just leave him to self soothe when he gets in this much of a mess! I don't know what to do :( he's currently been asleep 2.5 hours after I breastfed him to sleep! He has one sometimes two naps a day and they last about 3 hours if he has one but only about 1-2 hours if he has two but at night he only sleeps about an hour then wakes up
Sounds so difficult. I chose to sleep train at 4.5 months because I worried that when they got to the age to pull themselves up on the crib and scream mum at me and fall back and potentially hurt themselves, I wouldn't be able to do it. Personally if it is the route you want to go down then firstly pick a method, read up on it. I chose ferber and ordered his book, read it for a week or two before going through. And then when you decide to sleep train, stick to it. They will scream and cry and sweat and all sorts. But what helps with picking a method is that you can calm yourself as a parent if you know how to handle the situation. For example in ferbers method if bubba vomits, you're to go in, clean them up, no excessive contact, check they're okay and then put them back to bed and exit. However this may vary. Some babies do better if mum stays in the room and slowly moves out. It's just something you need to put a little time into and be quite strong about. Again, only if you want. I have sleep trained yet I still breastfeed to sleep because I like it. However he does sleep through because he has learnt to self soothe. To each thier own hun and good luck, xx
Have you ever thought of introducing formula. Even if only as a bed time bottle? You can breastfeed and do formula as well. I had to do both when my little boy was 2months as he was so demanding and my milk supply couldn't keep up. I did notice that when I introduced formula he slept all night. It's just an idea xx
