If there's concern for you or your baby's health, or if you have medical conditions that might put mom and/or baby at risk, you may not have enough amniotic fluid... uterine infections, your water broke and you're still not contracting, etc.
Some of the reasons for being induced are, medical conditions with the mother, or problems with the baby, or you go past your due date and you don't wana go too far so they will induce you so the baby doesn't go into distress etc. sometimes an induction os necessary. But during an induction if it fails and your in labor for longer than is safe or the babys heart rate starts to drop etc, they'll just do a C-section. But there are sooo many reasons why they suggest or do an induction.
P.S., I had to be induced the rest of the way with my last baby bcuz she had no amniotic fluid left...and I wasn't having steady contractions so she needed to come ASAP. I didn't make it to 40 weeks tho...
Yeah, I wouldn't have an elective induction. But I was induced with my first because I developed preeclampsia after I was overdue and it became very dangerous for us both.
@amichelle2, I had a really slow leak for a VERY long time...and when I went to my hospital bcuz I didnt feel right they did a ruptured test twice and it came back i conclusive both times and sent me home and they shouldnt have...i went to mt OB the next morning and she was like oh my god she needs to come NOW...bcuz her test came back positive...I did get checked out but they was stupid....they said I was fine. Her heart rate started going flat a little too..so it was horrible...I had to be induced. Wasnt happy about it but it happened
They didnt give me a shot or a pill just pitocin through my IV to induce. Occasionally when they induce sometimes they will put cervadil in your cervix first to help then they give pitocin. And cervadil is a little ball that is put up there and helps dilation.

Mostly the others gave good medical reasons... I had severe preeclampsia, even with meds they could not keep my BP down... the only way to keep me from having a stroke and/or seizures was to get the baby out... they let me try induction first, the cervadil put me into full blown labor... my body was already dilating, and I never needed pitocin... my body was going to start shutting down if it did not get the baby out... there are those women who do try to force 'nature' and talk their doctors into inducing them, even if their body and babies are not ready, and I think that's sad... but some doctors allow it! So it is what it is! Mine won't induce before 41 weeks unless there is a medical reason that jeopardizes the baby or mommy... I had my daughter at 33w2d

@heera, do you they give you a shot or pill to take ? So your amniotic fluid was leaking out and you didn't know ?
