I never got it n my children are very healthy. I'm also allergic to sulfa. I've never been vaccinated for anything.

@bonbonmomma I want to get it but I feel safer doing it once shes born in case I need any medication that is not safe for pregnancy. I think I will stick with that way jic

The reason doctors want you to receive the Tdap while you are carrying your child is because once your child is born he/she cannot receive the vaccine until 2 months. When you are given the vaccine some of it is also passed on to your baby in the womb. Whooping cough can be deadly to a baby.

Bring up your concerns with the vaccines to your physician. I know that the flu vaccine that my doctor gives contains no mercury or sulfa(I made sure to ask). I don't believe your doctor would put you or your baby at any risk.

No one can make the decision to have the vaccines besides yourself. But definitely get the advice of your physician. They will know best, rather then getting options from random people or the internet. Only you and your doctor know your specific case. Good luck 👍🏼.

@dmgraham06 yes I know why to receive it while pregnant which is why I posed the question. But If I have a severe reaction, I may not be treated the same as if I were not pregnant. I was told the flu vaccine, after the H1N1 portion was added as a 1/3 of the component of the vaccine, had no sulfa but still contained the same preservatives. I had it and had a severe reaction to where I was hospitalized then had to begin steroids for half the year and intermittent benedryl and vistaril.

Hence why I am trying to weigh the pros and cons for my daughter, then for me. I decided I rather wait fpr both our safety and my concerns

@twinpeanut, that's a pretty severe reaction. If that's the case then I say no questions should be asked and you shouldn't have the vaccines. I can't imagine that your doctor would give the vaccines with knowing what can happen to you. If you look online at the FDA's website I wonder if you could find a list of ingredients in the vaccines. Or heck wouldn't you think the ingredients would be included with the packaging your doctor has.

In your case I would pass on the flu shot also, given your previous experience. I've had the Tdap with both of my pregnancies and was never asked if I had ever had any reaction to vaccines. My brother-in-law also has a sulfa allergy and is allergic to eggs. He had the Tdap before his daughter was born and was just fine. He does not get a flu shot though.

Whooping cough just scares me. I made all my close relatives have the Tdap if they planned on having close contact with my baby.

I would ask ur doc on what the vaccine contains and ur reaction to it. I def don't blame u for wanting to wait until after she is born for it but if it doesn't have the stuff that ur allergic to it it may be worth a shot (no pun intended) So that ur daughter gets a little immunity as well. If not it's not going to hurt to wait to do it until after she is born to be safe especially if u still have a funny feeling about it after talking to ur doc. I just got mine done today and am not looking fwd to the sore arm for the next couple days 😣
