According to the mom police on Facebook, not opening gifts at a birthday party is rude. Thoughts?

My mom would think it was rude lol I've never done that actually. We always open up our gifts, especially if the person who brought it is there lol I love opening up presents tho!! Doesn't happen too often.

I don't think it's rude, because some kids are shy and don't like the spotlight on them. I think you should ask your child what they want. Especially since it's their day. As long as you send thank you cards to everyone who came whether they brought a gift or not, I don't see the big deal with a child not opening presents at the party. Sure, kid's should want to open their presents, but I don't think it's rude if they don't open them right then and there.

I have never heard that. My kids always open their presents in front of everyone

I dont think it is.. But i could see how people would get mad like they took the time to drive to the store and personally pick something special out, they want to see the kids reaction when they open them

Well my family likes seeing the childs reaction to the present. So if you hesitate like me and my sister always did bc we didnt like getting gifts. Like we got mad everytime someone bought us something bc we wanted to earn it by working to get it ourselves. Anyway, if we hesitated our family member would pressure us into opening them. Not so much our parents bc they knew how we felt, but the family members that bought them for us would.
