Is there anything my sons pedi can do about his picky eating? It is getting worse and worse. Can it be psychological at 4 years old? I'm really not being dramatic when I say that because he now cries or pretends to choke just to get out of eating. I don't feel like this is normal.

I would talk to his doctor just to be sure but doing that just to get out of eating doesn't sound normal to me either.

Doctors can check if he has a swollen throat or other physical problems he might have that make him not want to eat, but if it's psychological there's not much they can do. My SIL has a son who's 5 now and has been that way his whole life. They've literally had to keep him alive on nutrition drinks and bits of things he would eat. He's doing a lot better now, but it's definitely been a struggle. I'd say talk to his doctor anyway, cause you might be able to get nutrition drinks covered by insurance if they can't find anything wrong.

@typicalwifegirl, I'm definitely going to mention it. He will gladly eat chips or a cookie, but like good nutritious food, no. He won't eat food that has cook marks on it. Or now won't eat macaroni and cheese unless it's freshly made (which I tell him tough luck if I have to heat in in microwave) but I am seriously worried about his well being 😞

If he likes snack food, I used to give my boys those Lenny and Larry's nutritional cookies on picky days, so you could probably look those up and see if they're something you could do for your son. 😊
Maybe you could let him help do the grocery shopping too? If he thinks the food is his choice, he might be more likely to eat it. Make it a big deal like "hey kiddo, today I have an important job for you. You're going to do the shopping today." Then when you get to the store, pick two different options of something you'd normally get and have him pick between them. For example "should we get normal pancake mix or blueberry pancake mix?"

@typicalwifegirl, I'll try that! And I'll look those cookies up too!

https://www.lennylarry.com/ they have brownies and muffins, too. 😄 Even if your kids don't like them, you might. (PS, that's not an affiliate Link. It's just their normal website link so you could find them easier 😂😂)

@babynumber2ishere, my dr told me it's because it's the only thing they can control is what they put into there mouth... where as we control bedtime yes and no what they can and can't do etc so it's the only control they have over themselves

@napmommyoftwo, so did the dr tell you what to do about it? Like let him control his food intake or make them eat it anyway?

@babynumber2ishere, let him control it... if he's hungry he will eat can't force them to eat all you can do is try to get the best food that he does like to eat like my son loves chicken nuggets I buy organic chicken nuggets same with hot dogs and so forth so that way what he is eating is somewhat healthy
