I never took them. I learned to swim when I was about 8 or 9 but my dad just kinda said "well, you either float or you drown, so pick." 😂😒 I would like a more...gentle...approach with teaching Isabelle to swim lmao.

I was a swim teacher for a few years before I got married, so I can give you a bit of info. When they start walking, it's a good idea to bring them to infant lessons that will teach them how to turn over and float in the water, especially if you live near water of any sort.
As for swim lessons, you can start "Mommy and me" lessons at around a year old to get them used to the water and familiar with how everything feels. Age 3 is usually when you start real lessons, because they have better control over their motor skills and understand instructions easier.
In the mean time, just play in the bath and if you have a pool or beach or splash pad near you, you can take baby and just have fun until you think she's comfortable enough to look at lessons. There will usually be sign up sheets at public pools, or you can talk to local preschools about where to go. Hope this helps!

My 2 year old (3 in july) can swim. We started water survival classes at 10 months. Best decision ever for us. I think it is never too early.

I'm gonna sign my 7 and 5 year old up but the YMCA is remodeling their pool. I can't swim well and would feel better if I also got lessons. Two years ago when Charlotte was 3 she got into the pool behind our apartment to get her toy, not realizing she didn't have her life vest on yet. She went straight to the bottom. OMG. I got her though. After that I won't let them near a pool until they have been suited up with their vests first.
