(Sorry in advance for the loooong post... )
So my mother in law is throwing me a baby shower in about 2 weeks, and I'm terrified. I moved to Iowa 2 years ago, all of my family is still in my hometown of Las Vegas - none of which I've seen since I moved. My mother (who is not the most supportive person- since I told her I was pregnant her only goal has since been trying to get me to say it was a mistake, no congratulations or interest otherwise) is flying out here for the shower. No one in my family has met my SO or anyone from his family. I don't really have any friends to invite since we've only been in Des Moines for 6 months, so his mother has invited my entire extended family from around the country who I haven't seen for over 10 years and a lot of his extended family that I've never met. I had never expected to have kids (though that changed when I met my SO) and surely never thought I'd ever have a baby shower. I'm really introverted, quiet (though you wouldn't know it from this wordy post), and shy so I'm really pretty scared of even the idea of a baby shower, much less the dynamics from all of these strangers meeting each other when I'm about to burst (35 weeks). But other than any encouragement that is ALWAYS welcome, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what to expect from a baby shower. What do they usually involve, since I'm sure his mother will plan a very classic one (she's already made a diaper cake). 😳😓
