That's what happened to me but I still could hear my son if he cried so I just used it. It sucked but we switched when we found the one we used for my daughter when she was a baby.
We had this issue with several. We bought an Angelcare monitor from Amazon and it works great. No more static or feedback waking us in the night. So worth it.
