Life Pro Tip: NEVER, EVER tell someone who's kid was born 7 weeks early that they're lucky to have their kid already.... She may have exited my body, but I can't take her home for at least 4 - 5 MORE weeks. (She's already been there for a week!)
And yes, this just totally happened.
I didn't get to take my son home for 6 months. He was 16 weeks early. I hate when people say how small he is....duh. he started out at 1 lb. How many kids you know are 20X their birthright by 19 months???
Exactly! You have it way worse with your baby being in there for so long. You are missing out on the whole first month pretty much.
@sawyersmom It does suck! We didn't get to do skin to skin till 57 hours later. She was under the lights for jaundice. (Never had it, but to prevent it)
My cousin and his wife had their baby 10 days early, (but she was a preemie,) they induced mom she was in the NICU for 4 days. He told me today that she failed her car seat test, and needed one more day.
4 days vs 5 weeks or more is tough.
I only had my son 4 weeks early so everyone assumed he was healthy at birth and always said how lucky I was that I didn't have to go full term.
It breaks my heart.
We spent almost a week in the nicu and we didn't get to hold him for almost 36 hours. It sucks.
@kimberlyyyy_the-preemie-mom She's a friend and in a stressful situation at the moment, also pregnant herself.... I know she didn't mean any actual harm by it, but yes, it cut deep.
We're lucky that our little girl, Olivia is a Lil Asskicker, and is progressing every day.
I had to tell her that we're not "lucky". Also she has a genetic thing her daddy has, kind of complicates things.... cleft palate on her soft palate. Breast feeding and bottle feeding might be difficult for her. At the moment she's being tube fed.
Doesn't excuse the comment she made though.
Yeah, because it's "lucky" to see your kid with tubes and wires attached to them, not holding them, having someone else do their primary care... real f**king lucky.
I hate people.
I'd like to think it's just ignorance. they don't understand how shitty it really is to have a premature child.
