Waist trainers are good for results while you wear them, but don't give any long term permanent results. As soon as you take it off, everything falls back into place.
Your best bet for permanent results would be a healthy diet and regular exercise. Even 30 minutes a day is good enough. You can definitely wear a waist trainer in the mean time for the "tight" appearance it gives, but unless you're sticking to a healthy routine as well you're not going to be satisfied with it in the long run.
