Texas as far as weather goes isn't much different the than California. It rains a bit more in Texas though, and it gets humid and not just hot in summer. Avoid big city areas like Austin and San Antonio because the price to live is really high in those areas, plus traffic is horrible. You can't go a day without seeing an accident in Austin.

If you like smaller towns, I like Wyoming more than Texas. Price to live is way lower ($350-$700 to rent single to double bedroom apartments, $850 ish for a three bedroom house), and it's quiet and beautiful. (Very windy though, unless you live in the Big Horn Basin.) I like my town in particular because the schools are great, and there are lots of parks and great community programs for younger children and teenagers. Downside is there isn't much to do as an adult. I do get bored here, and the closest Walmart is 1.5 hours away, haha.

If you go on zillow you can search any state and browse prices etc.

Yeah you can shop around on zillow for all that. If you find homes in your price range you can look up schools in the area too. I want to leave cali as well. Personally, my choices would be oregon or colorado. Possibly new mexico. Good luck!

I was born and raised in East LA, so I feel you!! I lived in Texas and Hawaii and both were way cheaper than Cali. Texas was definitely the cheapest and the house I bought was huge, and on a golf course!!

I live in Longview, Washington. I rent a two bedroom apartment for $800. And we are looking to buy a house. We know someone here that just bought a three bedroom 2 bath house and pays around $1100 a month and $200 every other month for water, sewer, garbage.
