FTM here needing help! Sick newborn advice
My daughter is 3weeks +4days old and today she got sick. Had a bad cough that went away after a very long nap, body temperature was over the roof to where I had to give her multiple warm baths to cool her off, appetite was kinda low but now she's eating at least. Hasn't pooped all day (is that normal?) But did have small gas. Earlier she was very fusy and didn't want to be put down for nothing which is understandable but now she's very calm. Her body temperature is still high but I just now cooled her off. Is there any medicines for newborns? I'll call her pediatrician tomorrow morning but I just need other opinions and advice. I know some moms are different when it comes to their baby being sick.

I'm a new momma myself but my pediatrician said fevers in newborns are serious because their immune systems are still developing. As for the poo, maybe she's constipated? Amazon sells newborn medicines😊 hope she gets better soon!!

What's the temp?! Are you taking it rectally? I would call the ped on call tonight right away.

I agree with @gabriellerose . Pediatricians want you to contact them and usually bring your baby in with any escalated temperature in babies under 3 months.

If she still has a fever, they may advise you to give her a small dose of tylenol to bring the fever down.... especially if she's uncomfortable. Is she eating okay? Watch for dehydration... make sure she is wetting her diapers the same as usual. But yah... I would definitely call the on-call pediatrician or nurse right away... her doctor's office should have one. It's always more of a concern when the baby is so young.

I also have a newborn and I agree their immune systems are so fragile in this stage of life 0-3 months if you don't have an at home thermometer you should get one and make sure it's one you can take the temperature rectally because you'll get the most accurate reading. Any time she has a fever you should contact your pediatrician and if not available take her to the hospital you don't want to wait it out without a medical professional telling you to do so because it could be so serious
