@j.vmommy, thank you! yeah, we had to do our research... his dermatologist just kept saying use more lotion, apply topical steroids! 🙄😒 I finally had to step in and start doing my own research! We are now working with our general doctor, an allergist, and a communicable disease specialist! My hubby has been free from MRSA since November! But it took putting him on an anti-rejection med that they use for organ transplant recipients... to suppress his immune system and keep his body from attacking his skin! 😳 it's been a process, but we are FINALLY seeing a light at the end of the tunnel! 🤗 eczema is no joke... most people have no idea how bad it can get... and just think of it as 'bad dry skin'... if his body does not allow him to wean off this current med, his only option is to be put on a monthly biological med, that basically replaces his immune system, its $3k per month (no insurance covers it) and he would have to take it for the rest of his life! 🤦♀️ so we thankful he is getting results with the current meds! 😅 we don't even want to think about going down that other road! 😅
@dreamermom oh man I had no idea bout all that ty so much for sharing and making me aware u wonder if my hubby knows all this I'll keep u guys in my prayers
@j.vmommy, yeah... people with eczema, lack a protein in their skin to keep the natural staph on their skin in check... they can have up to 40% more staph on their skin... during a flare, their immune system is weakened and with the micro-cracks in their skin they are far more likely to end up with infections! My husband, went swimming in a lake while in a flare and ended up with MRSA because of the cracks in his skin! 😓 we battled it for over 2 years before we finally found a specialist to help him! And we've been working with this specialist for over 6 months... and they are expecting treatment for at least 6 more months! One medication is over $300/mo with insurance! 🤦♀️ if your hubby is being proactive in keeping the staph under control, he's less likely to have his immune system down, and far less likely to end up with a crazy infection! Never did I think we'd be battling something like this at 30!
@dreamermom oh ok cuz my hubby sometimes takes bleach baths n I wondered if it was safe cuz he also has eczema and maybe he has staph too not sure but he has itchy patches n he says the bleach helps but I keep asking if they safe cuz idk doesn't sound safe
My husband has to do bleach baths because of his skin... it's not really a 'bath' we basically fill a spray bottle with water and add a cap full of bleach... like no more than 1 part bleach to 10 parts water... he sprays his body down and waits like 5-10 minutes before turning the water on and washing like normal... he has extreme eczema, and has too much staph on his skin... so it was the doctors way of keeping it in check!
