Question mommies:

My baby is continuously searching for food. In turn, I've been breastfeeding for 3 hours on and off. She threw up a lot of milk and has been super fussy all night. Any answers? She doesn't normally eat this much but even after a feed she's screaming/crying for more. Dad and I are getting worried.

It could be that your milk hasn't fully dropped yet, could be that she is not getting enough milk. Also, it could be your diet, maybe it isn't sitting well in her little belly.

@yudith93, wow that makes it harder to narrow down now. I'm going to see if it is what I'm eating. My milk is def in though and she's getting a lot from what the consultants said. Also from the flow that I can see and hear her swallow. Maybe it is what I'm eating. I feel so bad.

It could be gas. Babies don't understand the difference between gas bubbles and hunger

Is she crying because she wakes up, when she stops nursing? Maybe she's nursing for comfort. It could be she doesn't feel good, or maybe just that she wants to nurse to sleep. My son was like that. He would sleep and nurse at the same time. If he stopped nursing, and he wasn't fast asleep, he'd wake up all the the way, and cry and cry.

I ended up sleeping in a chair, nursing him, at the same time, until he was sleeping through the night.

I just couldn't help but nod off, and nothing bad came of it. I think that happens to all of us.

Also, sometimes they are having gas, and it stops them from getting enough milk, because they are uncomfortable, and then, obviously they cry a lot because the gas pains hurt.

Sometimes they nurse so much, that they actually make themselves throw up. Because they are doing it for comfort, and they don't really have the room, in their tummy.

This is probably not much help. But I hope it reassures you to know that it's really common to have those problems.

And just wait for the teething!

Good luck.

In case it is gas, 2 things... Make sure you get a little burp, after you nurse. That will prevent the gas bubbles from forming. Also, they make gripe water for gas, but I am not sure if it really works or not.

Babies that little cluster feed. It's exhausting for the breastfeeding mother but it's a phase. It could hit later again when they go through a growth spurt.

Make sure her latch is good, too. Wide open mouth when latching.

My baby spit up a lot of her milk so I cut out a lot of dairy in my diet. She still spit up a lot but she's outgrowing it finally. Make sure you burp the baby every time she eats.

It's not recommended when exclusively breastfeeding but I did this and it seemed to help... I would pump milk on one side while feeding her on the other side. I then would feed her what I pumped in a bottle so I knew how much she was getting. She started sleeping longer and seemed more satisfied.

There's so much to learn with breastfeeding and it's so easy to want to give up when u think baby is hungry. If your milk supply is good, don't give up.

Check her latch.

Get through cluster feeding.

Make sure she eats from both sides.

If she's gaining weight and having enough wet diapers a day she's getting enough milk.

What you eat goes to her. If you have gas she'll most likely get gas.

Try changing feeding positions too. Try the football hold. My baby latched better that way.

I went through all this too. Keep pushing. If you have a good supply it's all she needs. Just have to push through the beginning.

😊😊😊🤐

If it's gas you can try mylicon drops. I use it for daughter. It's a life saver. I tried gripe water but she didn't do well with it and threw up the gripe water and her whole bottle. Best of luck!!

We used gripe water and it was a life saver honestly. He was such a happy baby after we started using it!

@ceruleansworn, I think my daughter did the same as your son. I'm assuming it's nursing for comfort since we do burp her fairly well. She starts crying as soon as we lay her down. It's getting better now that we have her on a more strict schedule but I really think it's a little anxiety at times. At night she'll feed only 10 mins or till she sleeps so I know it's not for food.

@morganmommy79, It feels like she's cluster feeding. Do babies go thorough the phase at 1 week old??? We do burp her well. My husband burps right after I breastfeed to make sure she's burped right and I'm not just doing it lazily after BF. If it is my diet I may just have to try and cut down the dairy. My milk supply is really good. So I def don't wanna give up. It does get frustrating at night though 😓
