This may seem like a silly question, but I didn't buy my sons now car seat so I'm buying him a new one and do I need to purchase a base separately or does it come all together?

If it's a new car seat the base already comes with it

It usually comes together but since he's already 8 months I would buy him a convertible car seat that's what I did for my daughter at that age and it goes rear facing and forward and up to 65 lbs (that's when I first bought it for her)

Oh then that's just how it comes, there's no base because it doesn't come out of the car
