Is there any anti-vax moms out there who I can ask a question?
@hkatedavis, I know there are special cases with kids that have cancer or other immune problems. Maybe see a specialist to rule out any problems first. Could probably see an allergist and geneticist to be sure.
When I was little I couldn't even get vaccines and still can't to this day. I was hospitalized when I was 3 and paralyzed and a bunch of other problems because of a vaccine I got. I know that was unlikely but it was because of something genetic and there is a chance my children could have the same reaction I did. Which if happened is more risky than them getting the actual virus. That's why I'm against most. It seams that there are just as many risks with the MMR than without so I just don't know if it's worth the risk
@hkatedavis, Measles is one of the leading causes of death for children and most deaths are children under the age of 5. They just don't have the ability to fight it and it's preventable with the vaccines. That's a pretty good reason. I'm not sure why you would be against vaccines, but regardless you can't even be a patient at most pediatrician's offices here without doing vaccines on schedule and can't enroll in daycare/preschool/elementary/etc. either. Maybe it's different in Oregon though? In Florida you would probably have to home school. You can look at more vaccine info from World Health Organization, John's Hopkins University, and others. I'm in a local moms group here so this topic comes up every now and then.
Well I am against most vaccines but not all. I don't think we should do the MMR vaccine but my husband does and I just wanted to know someone's specific opinion about that one. I feel very strongly about it but just wanted to know more
@kenitra, that's a good idea. I do know for myself since I still can't get vaccines I have to rely on the people around me for the big ones. Meningitis was going around a couple years ago here and the had the vax everywhere but I couldn't get it so I just hoped everyone else did.
