Okay so question. I didn't wanna breastfeed, I had decided against it. But now my baby girl's 4 days old and I just wanna do everything I can for her. What would happen if I started breastfeeding her now??? I can tell my boobs are very full, I just don't know if it would work. I feel bad that I didn't at least try and I want to if y'all think it would work.
The hot shower will make your breasts practically pour out milk, so that's why your nurse mentioned that, if you're wanting your breasts to dry up and not breastfeed. But, since you're deciding to give it a try, then the hot water will do you good. If you're not exactly sure on how to properly get the baby to latch, then I would highly recommend watching some YouTube videos. Improper latching will cause you severe pain and nipple bleeding, which will then cause the baby discomfort because you're in too much pain to nurse. If you have any issues with getting the baby to latch, you can always resort to just pumping and feeding her breastmilk through the bottle. If you have any questions or concerns, you have plenty of moms here that will help guide you through this. Just keep in mind that if it doesn't work out, at least you tried. If the baby has been to resort to formula feeding, then at least she's healthy.
@chelseamarie91, I'm hoping I can do it!! Is there anything specific I need to be doing? I had my boobs wrapped up and I took the bandage off and they're already leaking like crazy. The nurse at the hospital said something about not letting the shower water run over my boobs since I wasn't breastfeeding??? @haleybae, I really hope so! Her first pedi appt is Monday so I will ask
I read an article that said if you breastfed even just a short amount of time that it's 90% chance they will never get cancer their whole life and they compared breast milk to all the leading brands of diaper rash creams and breast milk will clear up the rash faster than any brand! I breastfed my daughter and she had scratched her nose and had a red mark from it I rubbed a lil breast milk on it and the scratch was completely healed and gone in less then 6hrs
