Hey mommies, so... I'm looking into doing photography. I am obsessed with taking pictures (especially of Preston) . How long do you have to be in college to be a photographer? And what are the requirements?
@autumnbmarcello My husband just told me there are definitely situations you would want certification, so I apologize for making it seem totally unnecessary 😂 we live in a small town so it's never been an issue for him.
You don't have to go to college at all to be a photographer. You can learn everything you need to online. In the photography world, clients generally aren't going to care how much time you spent in a class or if you have a paper that says "oh look, I can take pictures!"
They only care about you proving you can take pictures. You'll just need a portfolio with all your best work when you actually start looking for clients.
In the mean time, just keep taking pictures! Maybe invest in a good camera and a lense specific to the kind of work you want to do. Go on photography blogs and forums to get tips. Watch YouTube videos to learn how to do lighting. Aside from the camera, every one of those things you can do free.
You can start investing in equipment like flashes and back drops and props as well.
Once you feel comfortable enough with your work to start selling it, find out how you want to advertise. You can put out ads in papers and on Facebook or Craigslist, or posters up on bulletin boards in libraries. Just be sure to show your work.
Most importantly, just have fun with it! The best kind of photographer is one that brings a great attitude to the shoot.
Or how do you get one? 🤔
