What are the benefits to being induced? I've read on here lots of ladies that say they don't want to be induced but their midwives have scheduled a date for them anyways. Why is that? I know I'm anxious to meet my little one and will be feeling the same pressure so I'm trying to get some honest opinions please. No judging. Just need some food for thought

I personally wasn't induced. But I hear stories on here sometimes it makes your labor super long and drawn out. Sometimes they have to end up having c sections.

You went into labor naturally? How many weeks were you? My midwife said at 38 weeks she wants to start sweeping membranes. She doesn't want me going over 41 weeks. I'm confused bc I chose midwives specifically bc I thought they were more into letting nature run its course.

I was induced and worst mistake I made. I chose to be induced and never will I volunteer to do that or even ask to be induced next time around. My child almost died because she wasn't ready to come and it was too much on her little body. Her heart rate was so low it was pretty much was nonexistent. And before being induced she had such a strong heart rate. Not only that I caught a very high fever to the point to where nurses didn't know what to do. And my child was face down but inside of her looking at the ground like she was suppose to be, she was looking at my thigh which made labor so hard to the point that the OB stuck his entire hand in my vagina not once but three times to try to rotate my child but couldn't. It was so painful they gave me a rag to bite down on before hand. I was begging the OB to do a c-section to make sure my daughter would survive and he refused and made me go 21.5 hours of stress. All because I didn't know if my little girl was going to be born a still born or come out alive. I have never been so scared in my entire life and delivering a child that isn't positioned right oh god. I was praying, my husband was crying not because he was happy but because he was so afraid for our daughter's life and because he couldn't help with the pain. Trying to push a baby out that wasn't positioned correctly is hard. After that experience I promised my husband I would never put any of our future children in that situation. I would never risk our child's life again because I'm tired of being pregnant or want to see and hold them. I promised him I will be patient next time and let our future children come when they are ready.

@babynessa, did they try other things first such as sweeping your membranes? Pretty much what you described is exactly what I'm worried about. Which is why I can't understand why they're so eager to offer induction in the first place. I feel like it raises the chances of needing other interventions so much. Also I'm planning not to have an epidural. So I want to labor at home as long as possible but my midwife this week told me if my water breaks she wants me in immediately. I thought a midwife would be more pro au natural but it doesn't seem that way so I'm not sure what to do

I had my membrane sweep prior to being induced. The thing is if I would have just waited my daughter would have come on her own. I was already dilated to a 3-4cm and 90% effaced. So if I was just patient another week or so she would have come all by herself.

I had to be induced. Well my doctor was concerned about the growth of my son. She thought he had stopped growing. I think I would have preferred to have done it without being induced or at least with less time. It took the hospital 3 days to induce labor for me...

@lyn9965, why did it take so long? Was your body just not responding to the drugs?

@Megsandbabes I think that's what was going on but I can't be sure. They used 3 different medications....
