Slightly irritated... Tell me your opinions on this whole issue... One of my sisters is pregnant. This is her 3rd baby... During her labor with her 2nd baby, she ended up having an emergency C-section (after 24+ hours of labor) because her son was too big for her to deliver vaginally... This time around, the baby is measuring much smaller than her last one, so she had her heart set on attempting a vaginal delivery. At first, the doctor scheduled her induction for Monday April 3rd and then she goes in today and he's like "well, because of your C-section scarring, I won't be able to strip your membranes or give you cervidile (spelling?) And since you're only dilated to 2cm the whole induction process may not work. We just need to do the C-section on Monday"........... Now... Here's my issue... First of all, I was only dilated to 2cm when the SAME doctor induced me almost 8 months ago and I had absolutely no issues dilating...... I completely understand the need for c-sections, but I feel like majority of doctors push c-sections on mothers who want to try vaginal delivery (especially if they've previously had a C-section). It's not always necessary!!! The recovery takes way longer, it disturbs the natural bonding experience with your baby, I could go on and on........ I'M NOT KNOCKING ANYONE WHO'S HAD A C-SECTION, I'M PISSED AT THE DOCTORS WHO MAKE MOTHERS FEEL LIKE C-SECTIONS ARE THEIR ONLY OPTION....... This same doctor I'm talking about is also my obgyn, and one of our other sister's as well. He delivered all our kids. But, with my last 2, the word "C-section" kept getting thrown around coz my kids were breech. I wanted to make sure that I did everything in my power to NOT go through a major surgery (which is exactly what a C-section is) so I had the doctors manually flip my baby........ Idk... Maybe I'm overreacting, but I remember how long it took her to heal, how long she was in pain afterwards, I see the lasting effects that c-section scar has had on her confidence and I heard the heartbreak and disappointment in her voice today when she found out that she'd be reliving that entire freaking experience..... I just wish doctors were more empathetic.

@mcrowell0970 see, that's a completely different situation and I can absolutely respect your doctor!!! Sometimes, labor just doesn't progress, or it goes on for sooo long that the mother's literally too exhausted to continue, or mom and/or baby's life or health's at risk... Those are all obvious reasons for a C-section... But, imagine how you'd feel now, if next time you're pregnant, your doctor were to tell you that you can't even attempt vaginal delivery just because you've had a C-section before........ It's bullshit!!!!

The hospital here has a policy where if you've had a C-section even once, that's the only way they'll let you deliver. Even if you've done it vaginally since then. It's terrible.
There's a mom here who had a c-section her first child, and because of their stupid policy she's done home births every other child. She has 9 kids now, and is pregnant again. Her most recent 8 were all vaginal and they still say there's too much risk for her at the hospital. 🙄

Just reading that upset me. I cannot say I have lived that. I only have one baby and delivered him vaginally. But I had done a birth center and this is exactly why. I have many friends who ended up with a c section and know for a fact they didn't need it. Doctors don't want to be sued so they push for c sections the second they see a possibility of a rougher delivery. There are so many women who have had successful VBAC. Especially when they reason for the first c section wasn't their body not progressing. If a baby was too big then a c section was probably very necessary. But with this baby smaller everything should not be based on her last c section. I'm sorry your sister is facing this. That breaks my heart for her.
