Have any of you ever gone past your parents wishes on who you date? Like say your parents only like you to date your own…

How so? @luuuuuucyyy, I've recently started talking to s Brazilian guy ( by just looking at him you'd think he was black) and my dad is pretty narrow minded when it comes to that. He thinks you should only date within your own race. And I like all different races lol, usually I stick to white guys to keep the peace, but there's something about this guy 🙂 it may not even come to be anything serious but if so idk how to break it to my dad without him flipping out 😶 my dad is good father and I'm now his only child and I know he is just over protective and small town minded man.

Well I myself always dated within my race as well (Hispanic) until a guy I dated tried killing me ... long story 😱

Well then I started dating black guys, parents didn't care to much until I got pregnant my dad said he didn't want any man from that race around. Well not to long he brought it up again since my son's father had been messaging me and I sat him down. Told him I'm going to date who I like and feel is a candidate to start a future with especially having a kid. He understood and well now I'm just waiting whenever I meet someone.

Yeah I totally agree! I'm a lot more picky now that I have a child. Not only does he have to be good enough for me but good enough for my son and that's pretty high standards. I feel like if it goes somewhere with this guy then my dad is just going to have to get over it. @luuuuuucyyy,

My parents wanted me to date someone my age or one year older or one year younger, and they wanted me to date a black man which I have in the past but that's not who I fell in love with, and who God had planned for me, and my parents didn't like that (both my parents are white btw) and they wanted me to date someone who was nondenominational like they are but I didn't ever 100% agree with how they believed, my beliefs are Pentecostal (Pentecostal isn't much different from Baptist) and my parent's didn't ever like my husband even when we were just 13, and best friends, and I met him in Christian school, and they don't like him at all but I did go against their wishes, and dated him, and married him so if I would have listened to my parents I wouldn't have the amazing husband I have today

No they never really got over it they still are pretty judgemental and rude when I do go around them which is never I haven't seen them since last thanksgiving I didn't even go to the Christmas party in 2016 because of how they treat my husband, and me, and my parents have been off, and on alcoholics ever since I was 8, and they used to be sober until I got engaged to my husband, and everything just got worse when I got married, and moved out, they have just been horrible, and I can't stand to be around them so I've just quit talking to them until they start acting like mature adults, and quit drinking, and God knows what else because I am just so sick of dealing with all the stress they cause me, and it's not good for me when I'm TTC because I've already had two miscarriages, and I really don't want anymore, and I just really hate being around them when they aren't sober, and everytime I see them they are always drunk, and when I do get pregnant, and have a baby I don't want them around my baby at all so until they start acting like mature adults, and get sober again they will not be around their grandchildren at all

My parents havent liked anyone i dated, or even anyone my brothers dated... so i would say as long as you like them thats all that matters 😊
