Yes I do think they should receive a participation prize for trying their best. But not a award maybe a certificate for participating

I think it depends on the age. K-3 in my opinion is appropriate. Otherwise the ones winning the reward won't think of being rewarded as something special.

No, even though it's a nice idea I feel that there are more negatives. Whenever there is only a "1st", "2nd", and "3rd" place kids tend to try harder to win, which I feel is a great quality to have later in life (motivation, determination). Not to say that if kids were all given trophies it would change the child dramatically, but I do agree with the woman above me. When things are given to a child when they didn't necessarily earn it, that can definitely influence their behavior and allow them to feel "entitled" to things.
