Birth Story!
It was 3/8/17 Wednesday morning I went to my 40+1 OB appt. She checked my cervix, said I was still at 3 cm & 80% effaced (which I had been at 3 cm since 38 weeks). She assured me I would have an easy labor being already pretty dilated/effaced and being so young. (She jinxed it at that point). My husband & I came home and he went back to work and I decided to go on a walk with my mom. We walked about a mile, maybe more and came back to my house. All throughout the day I felt pretty normal except for being unusually sleepy. I took a long nap and from about 1-2 PM until 5:30 PM and woke up with pretty intense back pain coming and going. I decided to start timing when the back back came & left and they were lasting about 45 seconds - 1 minute with 5 minutes in between. After an hour of it happening consistently I told my husband & mom... we called the on-call Ob at my doctors office and he said once I start "huffing & puffing" to head to the hospital. I felt really off so I told my husband we had better head over. We got there around 8:00 pm when they check me and I was still only at 3 cm - after walking around the hospital for an hour they discharged us because I had not progressed although I was experiencing contractions every 3 minutes and continuing to get stronger. I said fuck it, let's just go home and hopefully I can be more comfortable laboring at home for some more. I lasted another 3-4 hours of labor at home until I couldn't walk or talk just yell through the contractions. We finally made it to the car and to the hospital where they checked me again around 1-2 AM - they said I was 7 cm dilated and had a bulging bag and that I would be admitted right away. At that point I opted for an epidural because of the extreme back labor - I only felt contractions in my back the whole time (now I know because she was sunny side up). I got the epidural & felt immediate relief! My water broke at some point but my contractions slowed down because the epi so they started to give me petocin. I went up to 10 cm by 10 AM or so. At that point they wanted me to start pushing.. I pushed for 3 hours & no progress was made at all. Her head was stuck and she would not descend lower than 0 station. After those 3 hours my dr told me she recommended a c-section because of no progress being made.. my husband & I agreed that it had been a long, exhausting night and to listen to my doctor. I went into surgery and she came out at 2:21 PM! I still can't believe she is here - she is healthy & beautiful! 💖🙏😍
