Contractions started that night but I didn't give birth for another 48 hours or so.

Yeah. The first 12 hours weren't too bad though, they weren't strong enough yet, more like pre-labor (even though they hurt like hell and I got sent home from the hospital), so I went to the movies, had dinner, then it got really bad the second night.
