The pediatrician told me that too, I try and keep him at an incline. Glad he's feeling better that cough lasts awhile but it's not so bad :) @cassielvosloo
Thats so great to hear!! Im glad he is all better!! Jayce is finally on the upswing. Still some mucous but nothing like its been! Same problem with his back though. My nurse told me to put a skinny pillow under his crib mattress so it is on a bit of an incline, it seems to help it drain better and he sleeps better at night! @s.k.a.m,
He's all better now, so nice to see him feeling good again. He just gets regular boogers now and every time I'm so happy not to see the mucus. I do notice he gets congested if he's on his back too long. So lots of tummy time and cuddles. It's a really long virus for them it seems. @cassielvosloo
That is very sweet thank you! He is a lot better, still pretty mucousy at night though 😢 and now his brother is sick!! Im hoping its just a cold though, he just started yesterday so we shall see. Hows your boy? @s.k.a.m,
Sometimes I'd let the saline sit before suctioning so it had more time to loosen things up but the bulb barely got anything I needed a better aspirator first. Hopefully you can get your hands on one. @cassielvosloo
It lasts for 7-10 days but the cough can continue for a few weeks even though they are feeling better. They gave me a print out I can take some pictures of it for you. @cassielvosloo
Yeah that was me too I stayed up watching him. Hopefully you can get the better aspirator and get some mucus out, it'll make you both feel better. I felt way more at ease after and didn't need to watch him so much.
You're right it is very hard especially after we spend a couple days in the hospital I'm so worried all the time that he's not breathing so I'm constantly watching him and he won't sleep on his back because the mucus bothers him and he can't breathe very well but thank you very much I hope yours gets well soon too @s.k.a.m,
Wishing your little ones a speedy recovery, make sure you get some rest too! You need to be your best when they're sick and it's hard because you just want to watch over them all the time. @cassielvosloo
No problem, really hope you can get your hands on one as once I got his airway cleared he improved really quickly. They told me to aspirate him too much because then I could make his nasal area swell and make it harder for him to breathe so they recommended doing it before feedings since it'll space it out and also that would give him the longest feed since they can really struggle feeding if their airway is restricted. I visited the stollery here in edmonton so they gave me tons of advice.
Did they use their aspirator at all while you were there? After they cleared him out he had such a better sleep. I also find the longer he lays flat on his back the more congested he seems and now that he's a bit more clear the worse he coughs. @cassielvosloo
I've just been using one of the bulb suction things I didn't know you could get a battery powered one where do you get those is my poor little man cannot breve half the time because of all the mucus we ended up spending three nights in the hospital because his oxygen was low and his heart rate was up @s.k.a.m,
We only spent a few hours they monitored him and determined he was getting enough oxygen so they didn't keep us. They did use their aspirator to suction him though and he breathed so much better afterwards. Their aspirator is really strong and it was able to pull out the thick mucus. What kind of aspirator are you using? My handheld one got out nothing, I had to go buy a battery operated one and it works way better. @cassielvosloo
Ooh ok ill sure try that! I live in a small town and they were not very helpful! Ive been using saline and aspirating but i dont seem to get much! @s.k.a.m
Did you have to spend any time in the hospital? Jayce started really getting sick on the 11th and still has thick mucous! It seems never ending!! @s.k.a.m,
I found taking him in the bathroom when it was steamy helped along with saline. Sometimes I'd bring him in there and then give him saline and then use the aspirator to suck everything out and clear his airways. Then before we left the bathroom I'd pat his back and the sides of his ribs like the nurse showed me to help loosen all the mucus up. It's awful watching them suffer with this. The doctor told me after the worst point when I had brought him into the ER that within 48 hours there should be an improvement and luckily there was.
He got diagnosed on the 16th but showed signs before that just not as severe in its early stages. He had just turned 1 month when he got diagnosed. He had issues sleeping when he was really congested from it, he's getting quite a bit better now. It's mostly coughing now not the thick mucus that was causing him to have trouble breathing.
