My mom lives 2 1/2 hours away and recently told me that she probably won't be here when my baby is born bc it's "too close to St Patrick's Day" and that's a "big deal" at her shop (she's a baker). This is my first (and probably only) baby. Is it selfish of me to be completely heartbroken?

Not at all. It's selfish of her to chose work over the birth of her grandchild. You have every right to be upset about it!

You aren't selfish and she isn't either.. she has to work. And her not being there doesn't mean she cares any less

I can understand why you'd be upset. Honestly I wish I had your mom tho because my mom wants to be near me and the baby 24/7 and she's really driving me nuts 😭😭😭

It just sucks bc I don't have any women here. I have some female friends but no mother role. My mother in law passed two years ago and she would have been the only other person I'd want. I'm scared to pieces. I'll have my husband, I just wanted a mom.

Count your blessings where you can @mrsgraffiti some women on here don't have a husband or a mother to be with them when they give birth .. I know mom's make everything better, they give you a comfort that only a mother can, I'm sorry , I bet it sucks.
