so needing some help here. Our lease is up March 31 I called our landlord to make sure I was telling the new landlords the right date. my current landlord told me if we move out before March 31 we are breaking our lease, but we can't move out after March 31 we have to be out by March 31. we have already signed the paperwork stating we are not renewing our lease and we won't be living here after March 31. my question is if we move out before and break our lease will it be on our record even if we paid the final the month of rent on time?

If you dont miss any payments and r paid until the end of your contract it will not affect your credit if u move ur stuff out early

@jgruenwald, but now she's threatening to give a poor recommendation to your future landlord! Either you stand your ground, or you submit to her demands. Your call

I just don't want to be hateful you know she's been good to us and worked with us when we first had our daughter and rent was going to be a week late she didn't make us pay a late fee she's done that for us at least three times in the whole two years we've been here @ciraclesmiracle

@jgruenwald, she's full of shit. You should reach out directly to the landlord and let him/her know what she is telling you and that she is threatening you. Honestly, a landlord should PREFER that you leave a property early if you have paid to the end of your lease because they can get the property ready to rent without it sitting vacant and not collecting rent. If you leave a few weeks early they might even be able to get it cleaned/painted/recarpeted/whatever and rented before the next month's rent is due. Either the property manager is on some weird power trip or she has ulterior motives for wanting you to stay--I don't know what it would be, but maybe she has plans in March and she doesn't want the extra work of getting the apartment fixed up and rented.

@jgruenwald, we own a rental unit and are landlords. She's jerking your chain or she doesn't know the law. If you pay the rent through the term of your lease why would it matter if you live there or not? Your lease is to ensure the tenant pays the rent, not that they're actually occupying the property. Is she a property manager or the actual landlord?

see that's what my bf said @ciraclesmiracle but word for word that's what my landlord said. any new landlord will want to call and talk to our current landlord and she said she will have to tell them we broke our lease if we move out before March 31 and I don't want it on our record you know but I also don't want to continue living in our apartment we've been here for two years. And I don't want it to bite us in the ass later and make it hard for us to get a new place

That's complete bullshit. You're allowed to move out whenever you want so long as you have paid your final month of rent. That is is no way breaking your lease/breach of contract.
