I had my sweet baby girl two and a half weeks ago. I started breastfeeding at the hospital and all was well. When I got home I thought all was well but when I took her to the dr a few days later she had lost a little more weight than the dr wanted so he told me to supplement with formula every other feeding. After two days she had gained almost half a pound! So dr said I could cut back/eliminate the formula. So I cut back to once at night for a week. Then the next week at the weight check, she had only gained a half ounce in a week! Dr told me to start pumping to increase my milk supply and supplement with either breast milk or formula after feeding at least four times per day. When I pumped I got milk although not that much (about an ounce total both breasts). I had a feeling that when she was nursing that she wasn't getting anything so I was supplementing every feeding with formula or the little rear milk I had pumped. I went to a LC that next morning for a weighed feeding and I was right. Anabelle nursed for 20m on my left side and didn't gain anything. Not even a gram! Poor thing was starving. The LC showed me how to use an SNS device but when I tried it at home I end up with milk or formula all over the breast pillow and baby's face. (I use a nipple shield bc I have short flat nipples). Anyway, i started taking fenugreek four days ago to increase my supply. In the morning (8:00am) after not pumping all night I pump about 2 and 1/2 oz and then after that each pump yields about 1/2 oz to 1 oz total on both boobs. I'm trying not to get frustrated and sad but I want to produce more milk and be able to nurse Anabelle. Any tips?
Oh and I've continued with my nipple shield as well, I know some people say it affects milk supply but the medela ones are the best and I've never had a problem with it
