when weaning a baby do you give thrm there usual milk to drink with the food? I've been giving him water then milk in bottles and how early should you try to introduce 3 meals a day he's 5 months and currently on one meal a day at lunch time the rest of the day he has milk. no idea how the whole weaning thing is ment to work but at the moment he has veg puree at lunch and the rest of the time he has milk. any advice of how to go about it would be appreciated thanks xx

Whether you introduce finger foods from 6months or 9months they will have to learn how to chew & swallow. I gave things like toast, banana, broccoli & chicken to begin with. I started with 1 meal a day & by 2 or 3 weeks they were on 3meals a day. Very small portions though. I tend to offer milk first then a meal an hour later as milk is still the most important source of nutrition. There's no right or wrong though I tend to follow their lead 😊

At 5 months I gave Logan two meals a day included his recommended amount of milk. Porridge in the morning then purée veg and fruit. A snack was just a yogurt. Now Logan has 3 meals a day and snacks in between. Xx @natsbabyboy,

cute @barnold I always thought they had to be about 9m for finger food because of chocking hazard I'd be scared to give him solid food this young incase he choked. you little boy must be good at chewing and swallowing x

My boy is 4 months on Saturday and he's been weaned since 12 weeks! He had porridge every morning and a bottle I try and give him a purée veg, such as peas or carrots, and he sometimes has another veg or a fruit purée about 5 but not all the time depending on how he is and if he's just tooo tired! But he has bottles with his food and throughout the day still but don't have as many ounces @natsbabyboy, xx

I don't think there is a certain way to wean. It's just about introducing the foods slowly. My little one is just over one now. When she was 5months I started to introduce the baby rice porridge as breakfast and you make it with their milk too. When she had her breakfast instead of giving her 6oz I dropped it to 4oz with the porridge. You will know yourself when your little one is more hungry for solids than milk. In my experience there is no right or wrong way you will know because you know your baby best. By 7/8months my little one was having a breakfast a lunch and dinner and a small 4/5oz bottle in between times. x
