Please answer quickly someone? I accidentally bought multigrain cereal instead of rice cereal for my baby. She drinks it out of her bottle. How different are the two? It's really close to time for her to eat. Do I need to go buy the rice or are they close to the same thing? I wish they didn't make them look so alike on the packaging 😩

multigrain is usually for older babies. you probably need single grain.

@beebaby, her dr told me to because she was t gaining enough weight. Would it be okay to just give it to her without just for one bottle? Or since she's had it for a month do you think she'd have a hard time with the thin consistency?

@beebaby, yes I have some still. I'm gonna try that because she's hungry now. I can't just give her nothing and she's out of rice. They really should make the containers more different

@beebaby, I wish I hadn't started it now. @js_kidsmom, yes I'll give her a little more. That's ladies!

@beebaby, I know it's a question for her dr, and I changed Drs anyways from the one who said to add rice, but do you think taking her off the rice might be okay?

you could try slowly taking her off rice and see is she gains with just milk.

@lwolfie, yes I'll talk to her dr about it too, but I would love to try

@beebaby, she didn't gain a lot from breast. I wasn't producing much so I put her on formula and she started to gain (I think fine) but her dr said she was underweight and to put cereal in her bottle and he was rude and demanded she had to have it. Now I don't think she needed it at all. Gave her an 8oz bottle with a slow flow nipple and she seems more content now than she does with rice to be honest. Took her long r to eat and she seems more satisfied

@beebaby, will pray about it tonight and ask her new dr in the morning! I like her a lot more

I'm no expert but that sounds like very outdated advice. Babies who are breastfed ALWAYS lose about 10% of their birthweight in the first week of so after they are born. Because your milk is coming in and because they are transitioning into actually eating and not taking in nutrition from inside your body. And for the first six months, your baby shouldn't need anything more than breastmilk or formula or both if you choose. But to start cereal in the bottle at 3 months seems very old fashioned and unnecessary to me? I know you're just following doctors orders but I urge you to do some independent research and perhaps seek another opinion. If you are still comfortable giving the cereal multigrain or oatmeal is a much better choice than rice cereal!!!! Rice cereal can constipate baby and it has low levels of arsenic!!! My pediatrician warns against rice cereal.

Are you still lactating? I feel like you've been led in the wrong direction by that doctor and it frustrates me because I had a similar experience when my son was a newborn. You're doing a great job mama you just need the right support and info!!

@panda_b16, no :( it was partially my fault for changing to formula too because I had a csection and all the hormones and everything and I had sores on both breasts it just hurt SO BAD that I quit. When I have baby number 2 I want to try harder to breast feed

@panda_b16, plus I switched her pediatrician too.

That's okay! Formula is fine and you can always give breastfeeding another shot like you said. Everything happens for a reason and baby wouldn't take the formula if she didn't like it :) but I think it's great you switched pediatricians. Hopefully the new one will be more supportive to you. But always do your own research, too. You don't have to rely 100% on what they say. Nobody knows your baby better than you do! ❤
