Any moms have recommendations on how to get baby to be away from you for more than 5-10mins? My little guy was preemie so I did a lot of kangaroo care but now he's 2 months and I can not put him down for the life of me. He has to sleep in my arms or on my chest and will wake up when I put him down. I can't make dinner or take a shower longer than 10mins. I'm trying to find a balance between attached parenting and him being a little independent. Any advice is appreciated.

at this age, your son doesn't even know he's not apart of you. he doesn't have any concept of independence, or being away from you. your heartbeat, smell, sound of your lungs that all keeps him feeling safe and happy. I know it seems ridiculous sometimes, when you really need to do something and they won't allow you to put them down. but, I promise it won't last forever. and despite what it seems like, you can break him from wanting to be held easily once he can understand that he is not you and you are not him. hope that helps mama. stay strong, and I hope you have lots of help around. ☺

My son is 16 months old and is still extremely attached. Do you have a baby carrier? Does baby like swings or bouncers?

He likes his swing for short periods of time. I'm looking into a baby carrier because right now I'm confined to the couch because he won't let me do anything away from him lol. I'm looking at a bouncer to try that out because he loves walking around or being rocked.

@jruesch, thank you for those reassuring words! My boyfriend is so amazingly helpful thank god! He understands I can only do so much right now because our son wants to always be near me. When I'm frustrated I always try to remind myself that when he's older I'll wish he was this small again it can just get hard at times.

You're welcome mama! oh, I totally understand. My daughter had acid reflux, milk allergy, and eczema and she cried 22/24 hours a day for the first 5 months and stayed in my arms entirely and to make matters worse my husband works a ton and I had no other help. So I totally feel your pain, but I promise you will regain your ability to do stuff again. Maybe not right now, maybe not even soon, but you will. 😊 swings rock! I couldn't do the baby carrier because my little one is a big girl, and I have back problems.

what I did was got a bag of rice and put a pillow case with my sent on it and layer my daughter on it then got a glove with rice in it and put that on top of her so it feels like I'm holding her but in reality I wasn't lol

@jruesch, oh my goodness poor baby I can't imagine how horrible she felt. It always breaks my heart to hear him cry. I hope your baby girl is doing better with her reflux😊
