Hi, new to the site, first post and looking for advice/comfort?
My 2nd son is almost 2.5 yo. He can be loving but he can also be so so difficult. ANYTIME you ask him to do something, he refuses. It can even be something he likes doing, he just doesn't like to be told what to do so he will push back. He's been hitting and screaming "No" at us. Time outs don't help. Withholding treats doesn't work.
I'm feeling like a failure. My husband and I are both rational people. Our first son (6yo) is very well behaved. I have been prescribed xanax to help with anxiety. Its not just because of him, but he is certainly a factor. A lot of times I just want to cry because I feel like my parenting skills just aren't cutting it.
I would love some advice or tips. I would also appreciate if people have similar stories of similar kids that turned out okay. I'm scared he will be out if control forever. I do realize he's only 2, but.... I don't know.

I have a 4yr old almost 5yr and most the time she wants to help do things. But she has lately been resistant in anything we ask and she's lashing out. Holding her breath , hitting and a few other things. We did the taking movie time out of her room, or asking for toys. I'm to the point where I may have to start spanking and corner time. I don't like to spank but it is the only thing that works for her. Now we live in a world of spanking is abuse. Abuse is beating .
But I stay at home with both kids I feel like the past month has beat hard on me. I feel like crying and being overwhelmed. Hopefully it gets better! Terrible twos are the worst!

hi and welcome. I hope you like this app. as for punishments go, nothing worked on my husband as a kid. my mother in law had to resort to taking away his favorite pair of boots to get him to act right.

I appreciate this, thank you for sharing!! We aren't spankers and I don't want to go that route but I certainly understand why people do! I feel like my bag of tricks is empty. They are too young to reason with and because of that I don't really know how to talk to him. Its like talking to an insane person. He can literally freak out even if he has what he wants. There is no rhyme or reason to it.
Bless you for staying at home. I know I wouldn't be strong enough mentally to deal with him every day all day. I never thought I'd say that before I had kids😔

@rlsmith, children are a lot smarter than what a lot of people give credit for. My sons 1yr check up today the doctor said that research and study shows that from 1-3yrs children obtain so much information, about right and wrong. I see that at my sons age, I can tell him no and he will watch me while trying to do it again but more slowly.
But hopefully your little one isn't pushing you to see how far you will go. And respectively he may know you won't do anything to were he will keep going.
Believe me i don't spank a lot at all. I'll let them walk all over me . But my daughter for instance hit my son a few days ago, I smacked her hand. (Shame on me)

Thank you! I try to keep in mind that he's learning right now. But I'm afraid that all hes learning is how to get away with everything!! I don't spank or hit because I'm honestly afraid that I'd lose control and go too far. I never ever want that to happen so I just don't use it as an option for me. Maybe it would be best for him but I don't really know.
