okay I need advice. My kids dad wants to do the taxes together this year again even though I worked but not for much time(regret leaving honestly) and he worked also but i don't think his social was running. anyways he wants to split what we get from our kids and I said no I need it like 75% of it because I'm the one living with them so I need to get their things because he will waste the money on unnecessary things. what should I do? last year he took all the money for himself spent a lot of it in beer.

but we are doing the taxes jointly and I didn't work for that long I doubt they will give me much for my kids

you claim the kids since they live with you. the judge and lawyer told me that. whenever I was married I did my taxes separately because I knew my ex would spend it all gambling. I had $500 and he didn't lol
