Sorry I'm about to VENT!! 🙄 I've never been so annoyed with a midwife! Had a wonderful experience with this group my first pregnancy... however, this time, Went to my follow up, met this particular nurse midwife for the first time... to start she seemed almost annoyed that I'm not getting genetic testing done... since I'm apparently OLD... I'm not going to terminate no matter what, and they can tell much at the anatomy scan... so why stress myself... then she keeps trying to get me to take a prescription for nausea meds... I told her I have a constant car sick feeling... but I don't actually get sick... I'm 10 weeks it will get better, I jut have to make sure I snack every 2 hours... then she looks me up and down and proceeds to tell me that I'm obese so I have to do 2 glucose tests, and I can't gain more than 10-15 lbs... wait WHAT?!? I'm over 20 lbs lighter than I was when I got pregnant with my first... I'm short, thick, but super muscular... so my BMI is always skewed... funny being the same height, and over 20lbs heavier, my first pregnancy they wanted me to gain 20-25 lbs... yet after loosing 38lbs post deliver, being over 20lbs lighter than I was... I'm NOW obese and should not gain more than 10-15lbs?!?! Yeah I think not... I swear she did not even read my chart, had no clue my first child was born preterm (33w, because my dad was dying and my BP spiked), never mentioned anything about my first ultrasound... then as I'm literally pulling out of the parking lot, I get a call from the midwife, I quote 'Hey, my bad, I forgot to mention they saw something abnormal on your ultrasound, and want to have you reevaluated at 14 weeks. I figured someone else probably told you' 😲😳😒😡😤 yeah... then she said something was abnormal about the gestational sac... seriously?!?? I waited for 40 minutes naked in a room for you to come in and explain how being 'obese' makes a pregnancy harder on me... yet you FORGOT to mention that they found something abnormal in my ultrasound... i went from irritated to straight pissed!! I get home, pull up my patient portal, look up the report... guess what, gestational sac was normal, baby, yolk sac and left ovary all normal... the 'concern' is basically a cyst on my right ovary... I HAVE PCOS YOU DUMB ASS!!! Poly Cystic Ovaries!!! That's NORMAL for me... they just want to monitor it to make sure it stays normal... like seriously?!? Did you even read the report yourself?!? 😓🙄😒 growl... she was more concerned that I'm not a cookie cutter, Barbie doll... than what is actually going on with me! I think I'm going to seek out an OB! 😒or switch to another location to another group of midwives... because this girl has NO CLUE!! I'm mean SERIOUSLY?!? Could that have been any less professional?!? 😤

Oh and bonus, she did not even bother to try to find a heartbeat with the Doppler thing!

I had this problem too! the first (and only) midwife I saw told me my BMI was too high, I was gonna end up going high risk so I wasn't allowed to be part off the midwife program. then I lost almost twenty pounds from morning sickness. I did go moderate risk, but it's just my BP. and I'm in the process of being induced right now lol. bunch of jerks. oh I have pcos as well 😊

They didn't start the Doppler on me till I was 7 months ,, but with everything else she sounds very unprofessional

@1st_time_wonder, oh you have no idea, lol... I got a call from scheduling and basically told them they better add something to my account saying I don't want to see her again!

@lovely_d92, the midwife at my first appointment said they would do it at 10 weeks, and with my first pregnancy they did it at 10 weeks... and I was fine with not trying until I got the phone call... and I was super annoyed that if she interpreted it as a 'problem' why would she not try!?

What made you decide not to get the genetic testing done? Insurance will cover it if you are high risk or 35 years and older.

@kenitra, the likelihood of getting a false positive is too high, they can tell at the anatomy scan if there are other problems... several of the things they test for if the baby does have, the pregnancy will fail anyway, and I'd rather not be stressed and worried the entire time... I just turned 35, but have no family history of any genetic disorders on either side... and many 'older' women having babies... figured it was not worth the stress

If it's the blood test (which I had done), it is 99.9% accurate. Checks for chromosomal disorders like Downs Syndrome and several others and as a side benefit, it also tells gender. I not only knew the baby was fine, but also found out gender at 12 Weeks. It's just a quick simple blood draw and almost perfectly accurate! Especially since it's covered for 35 and up. The test costs around $2,500 out of pocket.

@kenitra, I have a high deductible health plan... so I pay out of pocket 100% until $8K... then 80/20 until $12K... over $12K they pay 100%... so I'll be paying for most of my testing/procedures out of pocket anyway.

i'm getting the genetic testing done for this little one since some disorders can cause infants to be more at risk for SIDS and my four month old son passed away in october due to sids

@marskhaos, sorry for your loss! 😓 I can't imagine... we use a snuza monitor, it fits on her diaper and vibrates then sets off an alarm if it senses she's not breathing.

we've already been gifted an owlet monitor. before we even knew about this one or even thought about this little one.
