We got a puppy for our son to grow up with and I'm having the hardest time ever getting him potty trained and my husband has been thinking about getting rid of him and I just can't bc our dog and son have an amazing bond together. I've tried everything I could think of. I let him out all the time!! I've gotten puppy pads and the attracting spray stuff, give him treats when he actually goes potty outside. I stand outside with him 20 mins or even longer sometimes, I always telling him how much he's a good boy when he goes outside, I'm just stuck now! I told my husband I'm going to keep trying and if by the end of the summer he's not fully potty trained we can think about giving him to someone else even tho it probably won't happen lol but does anyone have any advise or tips I haven't tried yet? I would really appreciate it☺️

Have you tried crate training? I'm not too familiar with it since I haven't tried it with my current dog but I had a German shepherd puppy who ended up living with my uncle who has a huge backyard she needed and he crate trained her. He would leave her in her crate when he was away and as soon as he got home he would let her out to pee. Then he'd feed her and about 30mins after eating he'd let her out again and then once more 30 mins later. She was allowed to roam around and play while everyone was awake and when it was time to sleep she went back to her crate. Then the process would repeat until she stopped having accidents and she listens to commands :)

@canaryv, when we leave I always take him out before I put him in his crate and I'm normally never gone for longer than an hour and I'm only gone for that long when I have doctors appointments he's normally just in there for a half an hour and he always has accidents in his crate so I'll let him out and clean his crate. I'd love to have him in his crate at night but he just goes crazy all night long howls and barks and always wakes my son up so he sleeps in my bed. He used to be pretty good at going potty outside hardly had accidents in the house when we had our other dog but ever since she passed away he's been having a horrible time. I have a beagle so you can only imagine how he is in his crate lol

Honestly it takes alot of patience.. there is nothing that will work just overnight. Regardless to what method you use it will take time. I got frustrated with my puppy as well. I bought puppy pads and sprayed them with this training spray. Even then she had accidents. Never let her/him watch you clean up their mess. I was fortunate enough to have alot of time with my puppy. I followed her around when she would try to find places to use the restroom and catch her in the act and say "NO!" and pick her up and put her on her pad. Eventually she started to just go on the pad. It is MOST important to praise her when he/she goes on the pad.

My circumstances were different because I was at home when I bought her so I was on top of her most of the day. I had alot of time on my hands and was able to train her constantly.

Try contacting your local PetSmart I know they have training classes there.

@sweetpeamommy, my husband actually brought that up a few weeks ago I'll have to check it out☺️ @firsttimetarrina, we got him before I had my son and he's gonna be a year in a few months (the dog is) I'm a stay at home mom so I'm always home watching the dog and when I do caught him trying to go potty in the house I tell him no and take him straight out side. I've thought about getting those grass patches that they have at the pet stores. I just don't know if its just too cold out for him or what. He was never this bad when we first got him and had our other dog. It's stressful somedays but I'm definitely not giving up!💪🏼

Yeah don't give up on puppy. They just need patience. I staued at home with my pup too so you have got a huge advantage. You'll figure it out mama. Don't get rid of puppy! You're his family now ❤❤❤. Best of luck!!
