I know in certain circumstances they might recommend a little rice cereal early - for GERD. But the American Academy of Pediatrics says 6 months. I would ask your pediatrician to be sure! 😁 There can be some immediate and long-term problems if you introduce food to early.
I started giving my son small tastes at 3 months and we started actually spoon feeding him at 4 months. By small tastes I mean like dip my finger in sauce, gravy, or smashed potatoes and put it on his lips to taste.
I've been told 6 months but I've heard with some babies they eat a lot and milk or formula can't keep up, so like how in early week's you might suplement with formula you supplement with some sort of food, (I heard rice cearal but it probably varies by doctor)
@kenitra, @cubanese, are correct, babies shouldn't be eating solids until 6 months. Also @royalty, is also right most pediatricians now say rice cereal has no real nutritional value. At least my pedi has said that. We were advised to exclusively breastfeed or formula feed until 6 months then introduce solids. I skipped baby food all together with my second and started BLW at 6 months. We completely eliminated mush but was eating all recommended fruits and veggies. I'd soft boil baby carrots where they were firm enough to hold but soft enough to mush with gums. My son is now 14 months and eats everything on his own and has really good chewing habits and it helped developed his gag reflexes. I know some people will say that we all grew up eating solids before 6 months or whatever but the effects of consuming solids won't affect baby until later down in life when they are our age.

6 months. Nothing besides breastmilk or formula until then!
