yes. when you use someones belongings you are responsible for it. treat it as your own.

Also, you shouldn't have to ask them to fix it. If i borrowed someones car and damaged it i would be coming to them with an apology and a plan to fix it.

I would ask them to fix it. It's the only responsible thing to do if they damaged your car. I never let anyone drive my car not even family unless their insurance will cover them while driving my vehicle. I pay too much money every month for someone else to damage my car.
