when should I get my son's birth certificate? I need it for his health insurance and if I don't send it in within a month of his birth  (the 12th) I have to pay OOP for all his appts

Check with your state. I had to call the local courthouse and they asked me what county he was born in and I had to go to that courthouse to get it. The don't mail them. In illinois it cost $20. Every state is different though. His was ready in 2 weeks after he was born.
