It's because he is in a new place that he doesn't know. Cats peeing anywhere else besides there litter box usually means that they are not happy or that they associate the litter box with pain. Change can be very stressful for cats. They usually don't like change. You can try talking to your vet about it and see what they recommend. Usually you just have to give them time to adjust, which unfortunately may mean more urination outside of the litter box.

It could also be that your cat feels the need to mark their territory. Maybe the past owners had cats that peed outside of the box or that there is an outdoor cat that comes by. There are a ton of different reasons. If you have carpet I'd get the carpets professionally cleaned to get rid of all animal pee.

My cat peed on my bed three times 2 cause she was mad at me the other cause someone shut my door when she was in there and she had no way out. She also pees on the couch if she feels she can't jump the gate . Cat pee is by far the worst smell ever. I've scrubbed it out of my bed right after she did it but on the couches my parents didn't put in the work to make it so the smell was gone and they still have that smell 😔 we got an enzyme spray the other day which is suppose to take away the smell of cat urine. Idk yet if it's worked.

@brenking, thank goodness we don't have carpet. The past owners had a dog. I also have a dog. They've lived together since they were babies but we did read some of what you said online. @missjess now that I think of it the last time I moved he also peed on my bed. I have a pretty good cleaner. I also cleaned it and then covered the couch with a pet cover after it dried. I just worry that the dog and the cat will get into a territory marking war and pee all over!
