Your doctor should explain what she plans on doing that day then. im not sure if she will do something different. I had to be induced because of complications with the pregnancy so im not sure if it will be different for you. So make sure to ask lots of questions and dont be afraid to say no to things that you dont want to do. Like if you dont want pitocin ask the doctor if you can wait on it to see if you can have natural contractions first.
do you have another appointment before the induction? She should explain the process to you if you do. My doctor made sure to see me a few days before induction to let me know how things were gonna go and check my cervix
Well what they did for ne was that my dr. wrote up a type of prescription and phoned the hospital to tell them i would be induced that day. He gave me a time to call them on the chosen day to see if they had rooms available. They didnt right away so instead of going in at 1am i went in at around 5am. Then they put me on cervidil to help me dilate. Theyll put you on that if you arent dilating yet or at a log number like i was. I was only 1 and a half to two cm. You gotta stay on that for 12 hours and can't get up except to use the bathroom because its attached to your cervix and might fall out if you move too much. The cervidil actually started contractions for me so i never needed the pitocin. But they plan was to break my water after i was done with the cervidil and then start me on pitocin. And he said that process is the most common method of induction. Also just a heads up. If you plan on getting the epidural, definitely ask for it before they break your water. My labor got so much worse immediately after they broke mine.
they set a date and time. when you get to the hospital they will hook you up to the monitor. they will draw blood and start an IV. they will then start patocine. you are free to walk around and they will ask you to go on the monitor every once in a while to check out baby. they might break your water once you get going also. anyways that's how mine went
