my OB did one check at 36 weeks then nothing after. But it wasn't until i was 39 weeks that I found out i would need a c-section so we scheduled it for the following week. I doubt they will seeing as you have a planned csection...but every doctor is different.

the stick their finger in you. I think they tell by how far their finger can go in. I'm not sure. I had it done once and I wasn't paying too much attention. it hurts though. @jameyrhettsmommy
