So my husband comes home from Colorado and let's me know who he cast his vote for. And although I'm slightly disappointed in his decision, I'm glad he took the time to vote and voted based off of what he believes in. We've had our share of political conversations. Always very logical and never heated or disrespectful towards each other's views. We don't agree on every aspect. We are two individual people. We were raised in 2 very different households. We have different life experiences which have altered our perceptions of what we believe is the "most important" issue to focus on this election. And that's okay. My step mom can't vote as she's not a US citizen. So she's basically told my father that he has to cast his vote for her. He has ALWAYS voted 3rd party. He has never once voted republican or democratic, that's just his thing. That's his belief system. And this year she's basically turned it into a fight and made it seem like if he doesn't vote for who she wants to win, then it's the worst thing he could ever do to her and she won't forgive him. My father is a pretty strong willed person, so I'm confident that he's going to vote his usual way and just tell her he voted for her. But it's the fact that she's making it seem like he can't vote for what he believes to begin with. Please remember to respect your family and your spouses this Election Day. Ultimately the decision is in their hands. You shouldn't try to force them to alter that decision. It's their right to be able to vote for what they believe in. If you can't discuss politics with certain people without it blowing up, then don't. Because it's not worth getting nasty over. Whatever way this election turns out, we can always count on our loved ones. Don't ruin otherwise good relationships over this mess.
