you probably aren't cleaning it properly I wiped my babies every diaper change with alcohol and it didnt smell. it could be infected or it may not be just try cleaning it better.

My babies smelled like roadkill and my dr said it was normal because it was rotting flesh. It probably isn't infected unless you see pus oozing. ... I put rubbing alcohol on it at diaper changes and the smell went away.
