Thought I'd share my birth story...

I woke up on Sunday morning feeling absolutely fine. I went to the toilet to notice the tiniest speck of blood. I carried on with my day and at lunch felt slightly damp down below. when I looked, there was bloody discharge. soon after about 1245, I started to have mild backache. I laid down with a hot water bottle on the pain and then as the pain intensified, I switched to my tens machine and I started to have contractions started as 1 in 9 minutes and went to 1 in 8 minutes very quickly. at about 430 the pain had increased, contractions were 1 in 4 and my OH was getting concerned as I couldn't tell him about movements which also concerned the midwives he spoke to. they asked us to come in and after an hour on the monitor with contractions still going, the midwife emma did an examination and we discovered we were 6cm dilated! shocked that I was over halfway we made the decision to use the birthing pool and we were taken across at about 7pm and I was given gas and air. over the next 4 hours waters went wed got to 9 1/2cm dilated and the urge to push was unbearable. Emma asked us to resist the urge to push and wait until we were fully dilated. it was hard and intense not to push but after 50 minutes of not pushing Emma re-examined and we were fully dilated. she said we could push and we just went for it. after 20 minutes I felt something was wrong and I told Emma that I knew something was wrong. she said I was doing well and kept monitoring baby to be sure. baby's heartbeat rose significantly and it caused Emma concern. she told us if his heartbeat was still high in 5 minutes wed need to come out of the pool and the doctor would come and see us to help us deliver baby. we were put on the ctg to keep an eye on baby and the doctor came in and said she'd help us by using the cap to pull baby out. she had to cut and then she helped us deliver baby. he was absolutely fine and I was looked after by the nurses whilst the doctor sorted downstairs out as shed cut a blood vessel and I was bleeding a lot. luckily we were both OK as my OH was told he could of lost us both at one point.

after a very intense 12 hours and a lot of help, we both are here and feeling so much better. so lucky to have my little boy and to be here to see him grow up. he's worth everything we went through.
