Ashanti and Joshua. ❤️ (long post, sweet story)

Ashanti is an 18 year old special needs girl that my husband and I have taken in. She is from New York and was treated very poorly her whole life. Even though we have been in contact since February, last Friday when I picked her up from the train station was the first time I met her. She is higher functioning autistic, and is mentally between 4-8 years old. She has severe PTSD. Her mom was a druggie and Ashanti got caught in the middle when her mom didnt pay, resulting in her being shot and stabbed. (Of course that was when her mom didn't just use Ashanti as payment). Her first memory is being used for payment when she was 4. She calls me mommy. Her left leg is partially paralyzed due to a complication during gallbladder surgery. She's terrified of getting wet because her mom used to lock her outside when it rained. It sickens me to think about everything she went through. She has a 4 year old daughter named Annabelle but her grandma and dad won't let her tell people that. Her twin brother is the only one who cares about her and he is joining the army and his fiancé hates Ashanti. I'm glad she's here now but it is stressful. She is loving being a big sister though.
