Anyone have strong opinions on the TDAP shot? My midwife told me it's not necessary. Just recommended, but so is the flu…

I was told the same thing by my doctor, and I did the TDAP for my daughter and me. I opted out of the flu shot though.

I personally am going to get the tdap but not the flu

A family friend had her baby a month after mine. When she was a month old she got whooping cough. Not sure where she got it from. I know she was in the hospital for a couple of days. But she's fine now.

I did both, but I've never had a reaction to any vaccine. The tdap is sooo new during pregnancy. I trust that the benefit outweighs the risk. It was a small prick in the arm and I had a sore little bump for about a week. I stay at home as well but my SO works and people visit. I'd rather a tiny piece of protection than nothing ☺️ just my opinion. Definitely do some unbiased research and make a choice. Best of luck!

I got the t-dap when I was pregnant and made my other family members who would be around her get it too. they knew if she didn't have her shots til 2 months, they were at least getting something to protect my baby girl if they were gonna be holding her. just my personal preference though. I know some ladies don't and their babies are fine. I just didn't wanna take any risks whatsoever and my doctor highly recommended it to me. 🤗

@valrocks, I don't want him to get sick 😔 my midwife made it seem like if he got whooping cough he has a high chance of dying. I'm glad to hear someone's one month old ended up okay.

I got it just to be on the safe side, the hospital gave me some papers with statistics about how many babies died in that hospital last year due to whooping cough , last month my daughter had a lil cough and I got scare so I made everyone around the baby get it just to be on the safe side but then again at the end of the day you know better than anyone else what's consider good or bad for you and your lil one :)

Yeah. She was in the hospital for 2 days I think. On IV and antibiotics.

Well I say not the flu shot because even when my family was sick with the flu, I wasn't and I had to eat and clean up after them and I still never got it. I've also heard of the flu shot actually making people get a bad case of it because it contains a live virus and people just aren't able to fight it off.

So my daughter won't get one and neither will I.

@jessicarose0602, my husband went to go get his and they told him he was already up to date and that getting another one wasn't going to make a difference, so they sent him home without the shot. I'm just confused on why I need to get another one if he doesn't. Nobody has really been able to explain it to me.

@cubanese, was there a certain reason you decided against it? I wish my doctor would talk more in depth about it with me but I think they're trying to not "sway" me either way.

I know they want you to get another one with each new pregnancy typically. that's only what I've heard. I only have one child so I'm not 100% how that works but I know if i ever got pregnant again I'd get another tdap just as extra precaution. ultimately it's your decision! so you've had one before? how long ago was it? @christimary0

@christimary0, I got both with this pregnancy. With my first son I got the t-dap but did not get the flu. There are different circumstances with this pregnancy than the last, and we are requiring anyone that is around our son to be vaccinated. Again, this is only because of some other issues.

Whooping cough can be deadly in an infant. Better safe than sorry but it's ur choice! I got the flu shot and I'm glad I did I was pregnant when it was cold so it was the flu season and I didn't get sick once! 7 months pp and still haven't! Lol

I got both. I felt it was better to be safe.
